1. CLEANSING
You don't necessarily have to choose a foaming cleanser but they seem to be the preferred choice. Take a small amount of cleanser and lather up before applying to face. Best one to try is gel based foaming cleanser which help to strip away the excess oil without over drying and work well than cream based foaming cleanser.
People mostly consider oil cleansing as a part of dry skin care routine but they didn't know that oils go well with oily skin. Oil cleansing method (OCM) helps to remove all those water proof makeup, heavy layers of sunscreen and makes skin squeaky clean. We end up doing this usually with the normal cleanser by using more amount of product and it dries up our skin. Oily skin doesn't need to be maintained dry and all that it needs is hydration. So don't forget this. "oil attracts oil".
Most of the products available for oily skin labelled as oil control just gives a temporary masking solution with no benefit in long run so choose the right type of cleanser.

2. EXFOLIATING
Oily skin needs this more than any other skin type. Our skin regenerates time to time and produce new skin cells and the older dead cells come up to the top most layer. They leave the skin look dull and rough. Build up of such dead cells can cause to produce more excess oil and clog the pores causing acne and as we all know oily skin is more prone to blackheads. Exfoliation helps to remove them and make skin look more fresh and young. But over exfoliation can harm the skin by causing micro tears so it must not be a part of daily skin care routine. One can exfoliate up to twice in a week and not more than that even if the product says that it is a daily scrub.

Oily skin will have large visible pores. Cleansing also leaves the skin with open pores so it's necessary to tighten them using a toner. It also helps to remove the traces of oil and dirt left after cleansing. It shrinks the large pores and makes skin look more smooth. It's important to use an alcohol free toner. It must be used regularly after cleansing in the morning as well as in the night time.

4. SERUM
Oily skin needs hydration and in order to double up the effects of hydrating products, the skin needs serum. Use an anti-oxidant serum for your skin benefits. Serums usually have higher concentrations of active ingredients and it's texture is lighter than a moisturizer. Even when you skip moisturizer sometime, serum can alone stand up and produce hydration. It must be used after toning and before applying moisturizer. Serums play an important role in slowing down the process of aging and they are rich in essential oils and omega-3 fatty acids which our skin needs the most.

Choose moisturizer with good hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerine, lactic acid, honey, etc. They prevent the water content from your skin from evaporating whereas hydration refers to providing the skin with the required water content.
